Star Wars Land, Galaxy’s Edge, Coming to Walt Disney World

The trailer for the newest entry in the Star Wars Saga, The Last Jedi, was released online last night, and if you’re like a good many of us in the world, you want to step through your screen and into that world. Well, you will soon get your wish.

As soon as the Walt Disney Company purchased Lucasfilm, the company that produces Star Wars, theme park fans have eagerly anticipated when they might see more rides and attractions based on the mythical world that’s been thrilling audiences for 40 years.

In 2019 Walt Disney World will unveil an entire land devoted to the venerable film franchise, nestled into Disney’s Hollywood Studios (which may be undergoing a name change itself in the next few years). Called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the park addition will feature new attractions and sensational new dining opportunities for guests.

The new land will feature two major attractions that launches guests into the middle of the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance, the warring factions introduced in the seventh chapter of the saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The details of the attractions haven’t been fully released, but they have been teased a little by the Imagineers. One attraction will make you feel like you’re on a Star Destroyer inside one of its massive hangar bays. If you remember the opening shot to the 1977 original, and how that humongous ship just kept coming and coming as it flew into frame, then you have an inkling of what the excitement to expect from this attraction.

More exciting, though, will be the second attraction that will give guests the opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon – piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace. It will be the fulfillment of many kids’ (and their parents’) lifelong dream to get behind the wheel of that puppy!

But, what will make this entire land more immersive than any previous theme park addition is that your magic band or park ticket will remember your performance flying the ship, and when you and your family visit other areas of the park, the cast members and costumed characters will talk about it with you, all while staying in character!

And fans of the original films will be delighted to learn that at the Cantina, the main eating area, they will be able to purchase blue milk.

As more details are revealed in the coming years, we’ll be sure to keep you posted! Until then, may the force be with you!
