The Boys of Summer in Myrtle Beach

For anyone who has seen Bull Durham (and if you haven’t, correct that as soon as possible, it’s on Hulu this month), you know the special connection small town baseball clubs have with the locals. After all, smaller A-Ball teams are members of the community they play in, and know how to best entertain the crowds. The game becomes more personal for everyone, and the line between players and fans isn’t so guarded.

Myrtle Beach is home to just such a team: the Pelicans who play at TicketReturn.com Field. An afternoon or night spent with the Pelicans will remind you of simpler times. You and your kids will have an amazing experience that goes far beyond watching the game.

Before the game starts, head down to the fence line to greet the players and get a few autographs. The players will be happy to extol some wisdom regarding the game and give your kids nuggets about sportsmanship they will carry throughout life.

Kids can also live their dreams and play a game of catch on an actual, professional baseball diamond! Pregame Catch on the Field is offered on most Sunday home games throughout the season, field conditions permitting. Catch begins 40 minutes prior to game time and lasts approximately 15-20 minutes. To participate, enter the field from Section 115, which is on the third base side. You’ll need to bring you own gloves and baseballs and arrive one hour before the first pitch to participate.

Following every home game, kids may run the bases with Splash and Deuce, the team’s mascots. Kids enter the field on the first base side at the top of Section 104 and exit near the home plate area at Section 107. Parents may join younger children on the field if necessary. Kids are asked to only run the bases once since time is often limited due to other post-game events.

Single-game tickets begin at $9 for seats in the outfield, go to $11 for reserved box, and end up at $13 for field box seats. Day of game tickets prices are $2 more at each level, so if you plan to go buy your tickets in advance. You’ll also get the best pick of seats that way.

And don’t forget to tag us on social media with your pictures from the game! We’re on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
